Orkladal Ysteri

We tell a story by having historical names for our cheeses. The cheese Høvding Sverre (Chieftain Sverre) gets its name from King Sverre who was the king of Norway in the 1100s. He had one of his royal farms in our village - Gjølme farm - which at that time was called Gelmin. Our hard blue cheese is called Gelmin. Chieftain Sverre had a sister, Cecilia, who grew up on Gelmin and looked after this farm. Our caraway cheese is called Søster Cecilia (Sister Cecilia). Cecilia eventually married Bård Guttormsson. Our new blue cheese, developed during the COVID pandemic, is called Svoger Bård (Brother-in-law Bård).

We produce soft washed-rind cheeses, hard matured cheeses with different degrees of maturation, blue cheeses, caraway cheese and frying cheese.
