Warm sandwich with cured ham and salami, onion and avocado

This can just as well be made on the fire on the grill as in the oven. This is super snack food and you go for a long walk in the woods and fields, or if you just fancy an easy lunch or evening meal. If you like, you can serve it as dinner with a good salad and preferably fried potatoes on the side.

4 portions


1 stone-baked bread


3 tablespoons of oil

2-3 cloves of garlic

2 avocados

8 slices of Norwegian cured ham

16 small tomatoes

1 handful of basil

1 red onion

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

1 pc. arugula
8 slices of Norwegian salami
200 g white cheese or cottage cheese

This is what you do:

Cut slightly thick slices of the bread.
Put a little oil in a frying pan and rub a stick of garlic on all the bread slices, fry them lightly in the pan, so that they get color and a nice crust, if necessary toast the bread in a toaster.

Finely chop the rest of the garlic, cut the avocados in half, remove the stone and slice them.

Cut the ham into strips and cut the tomatoes in half.

Put oil in the pan and fry the garlic, avocado, cured ham, tomatoes, basil and red onion for a few minutes.

Place the slices of coarse bread on a plate and add salad leaves and the fried filling.

Add some salami slices and thick slices of cheese.
Top with the last slice of wholemeal bread and sprinkle some grated cheese on top.

Roast in the oven on the middle rack at 210 degrees for approx. 10 minutes until the cheese melts.

But this is a slice of bread that you can easily make on the grill or on the fire for a few minutes until the cheese has melted and the slice of bread has become warm.


Tip I
If roasting on the fire, the bread slice must be wrapped in a few flakes of aluminum foil and placed on the embers for a few minutes.


Tip II

You are welcome to replace hard white cheese with blue mold or white mold cheese, kit cheese or cream cheese. Then they either become stronger in taste or milder. Here, you just have to test what you like best.


Serve with fried potatoes or a green salad on the side, then you quickly have a good dinner.
