At our farm Færden in Valdres, our family has processed raw materials from nature for generations, and in 2011 we chose to carry on some of these traditions and established Valdresmeieriet. Today we are located in modern dairy buildings at Fosheim in Røn, and when we moved in, it was exactly 100 years since the first time a dairy was established in the same building.
Valdresmeieriet produces Valdres Ost, which are hard white cheeses with and without seasoning. The cheese is made by hand from whole milk, which is delivered from selected farms in Valdres all year round. We make three varieties with seasoning; Bukono with fenugreek, Helin with cumin (nøkkelost, a traditional cheese) and Syndin with nettle. The cheeses get their names from the farming areas around the dairy in Vestre Slidre in Valdres. We also make two plain cheeses called Fosheim and the mountain farm cheese Bufar®.
