Cheddar

Cheddar

Origin

The cheddar cheese takes us to England. It originates from the village with the same name, not far from Bristol in Somerset. The cheese dates back hundreds of years and became very widespread during the 1800s. It was so widespread that the English began importing their own historic cheese, for example from the USA.

Norway

Cheddar first came to Norway, like the Dutch and Swiss cheeses, in the 1860s, and Norwegian professionals were sent to England to learn how to produce Norwegian cheddar. Norwegian cheddar became an important export after World War 2, but its great breakthrough among Norwegians did not come until it was served on pizza!
