Cheese WC Bergen 2018
About the Oste WC
More than 3,000 cheeses from all over the world gathered in the Grieghallen in Bergen on Friday 2 November 2018. There they were judged by 230 international cheese judges, and fought to be named the world's best cheese. The judging took place in Dovregubbens Hall in Grieghallen during the food and drink festival Matnasjonen Norge. The final of the World Cheese Awards took place on Friday night and was open to the public who wanted to join in an entertaining cheese final hosted by BBC presenter Nigel Barden.
What the judges said before the Cheese WC 2018:
On Friday 2 November, the World Cheese Awards competition was held in the middle of the festival grounds in Dovregubbens Hall, so that the public could see the judging and smell the cheeses from a distance. The festival continued on Saturday 3 November, when the competition area was transformed into a large cheese table where the public could buy tickets for guided cheese tours organized by international experts.
The World Cheese Awards is one of the world's largest cheese competitions, and is owned by the British foundation Guild of Fine Food. In 2016, the Norwegian cheese producer Tingvollost was named the winner of the competition with its blue mold cheese Kraftkar, and after this, HANEN and Norsk Gardost started work on organizing the World Cheese Awards in Bergen. Minister of State Jon Georg Dale launched this news during the World Cheese Awards final in London which took place the previous year.

This was a fantastic collaborative project where the international Great Taste held the competition and HANEN was responsible for the surrounding event.
