The dairy started up in 2009 at the goat farm, Raundalen, in Vinje municipality. This goat farm had a connected mountain area, and the goats therefore moved up to the mountain farm in the summer\u00a0.<\/em>Lega comes from the word \u201clege\u201d, which is a warm and lush place where animals and humans often seek shelter.<\/p>\n

There has been mountain farming on Lega for a long time, probably for several hundred years. In the 1800s, people from the central Telemark villages were the owners of the meadows, and went up there with their animals in the summer. Lega is in a free and sunny location up towards the mountains Skinnuten and Solbj\u00f8rfjellet. The view of the mountains is impressive, with the towering Vehuskjeringi as a landmark in the west. In this area, you will find the old mountain village of Brannkv\u00e5len, rich in legends and folklore.<\/p>\n

Today, the cheese factory has grown out of the garage on the farm, Raundalen, and can be found in a new, larger building at Rauland in Vinje municipality. Lega wants to bring the values of farming into the dairy, bakery and shop.<\/p>\n
